Eaves in the Wind
Traditional Chinese roofs have long shaped the urban skyline. In Xi’an, where historic architecture is abundant, the flying eave stands as one of the most iconic elements of classical Chinese construction, taking on a wide range of expressive forms. For this limited-time nice rice concept space in Xi’an, the site’s nearly 10-meter-high storefront becomes a key design opportunity. By merging this generous scale with the language of flying eaves, nice rice integrates its brand identity into the architecture. Soft, fluid curves outline a minimalist upturned eave, gently lifting the façade and welcoming visitors from all directions.
The store seeks to weave Xi’an’s traditional culture and architectural texture into the space. Alongside the creation of a city-wall–inspired display platform, a landmark entrance installation is formed, anchoring the store within its urban context.
Inside, the brand’s signature design language continues. The texture of Xi’an’s city walls is reinterpreted through stone, enclosing the central display platform. A circular layout helps guide and disperse visitor flow, while minimalist lacquered metal fixtures define product zones with clarity. The result is a more intuitive, fluid, and comfortable shopping experience.
A true landmark does not rely on excessive spectacle. True to the brand’s philosophy, nice rice believes that classic design best highlights individual character. Through contemporary design, the brand aims to translate the wisdom of traditional architecture, allowing commercial spaces to gradually become vessels of culture.
