The nice rice Chengdu Taikoo Li store draws inspiration from the culture of the traditional “li” — a form of urban structure and neighborhood life found in old Chengdu — to construct a renewed interpretation of the “li” within the contemporary city.
The storefront features wooden panels made from transparent resin, forming a hazy, softly diffused façade that acts as a spatial partition. This approach echoes the form of traditional shopfront doors while dividing the interior into multiple independent zones. The simple, layered composition recalls the lively scenes of historic street shops, while also reflecting the brand’s pursuit of new materials and contemporary visual expression. Within the adjacent yet interconnected “li” spaces, a pure white 3D-printed panda descends from above, hanging upside down and reaching out to interact with visitors. This playful gesture embodies a vision of harmonious coexistence between people and their surroundings, unfolding across the courtyards between “li.”
Rebuilding the “li” represents an innovative fusion of urban culture and commercial space, and an invitation to reconnect people with tradition through a modern lens.
